PAINTERMIHU

I was inspired by a beautiful photo exhibition by Eugéne Atger, who photographed Paris in the early 1900s. I was particularly impressed by his reproduction, the stillness of a city, the beautiful compositions. This was what I wanted, to capture this atmosphere in my paintings. With, in my mind, the photos of Atger I started a long search. Eventually I ended up with the oldest form of painting, painting with tempera.
I specialize in this technique. I paint perfectly well with tempera, every brushstroke has to be touched. The concentration is very high. Looking for the right atmosphere, with an extremely fast test I record the silence. This controversy eventually makes the special atmosphere in my paintings. I make my choice from several paintings of one composition.
I sign the best painting with MIHU. My paintings have never been painted, they exude an open atmosphere, while you can still touch the layers in every key to experience. My paintings raise questions.
I consciously allow the viewer all freedom to interpret. So you can, as it were, wander in an MIHU. I stay inspired by cities and landscapes that have been abandoned and all tell their own story.
That is an inexhaustible source for me. I always paint in a series, while each painting stands alone. I do not shy away from a big project. It’s already finished in my head.
